Independent grid operator plans to take control from Nova Scotia Power in spring 2028

Nova Scotia's new Independent Energy System Operator plans to take control of the province's electricity grid from Nova Scotia Power in spring 2028, according to its plan for next fiscal year. The non-profit operator would build a new control room and grow from 55 to 91 staff, many hired from the utility. It expects about $15 million in operating costs and $41 million in capital spending next year; the full transition is estimated at $75 million, costs passed to ratepayers. Consultants project more than $200 million in customer benefits over 15 years. The plan needs Nova Scotia Energy Board approval.
