Conservation officers DNA-test captured grizzly after fatal Bella Coola attack

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service has captured a grizzly bear and is using DNA matching to see whether it was involved in a fatal attack on a mother and daughter near Bella Coola. Their remains were found Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 in the Snooka West Trail area. The service said any bears involved will be killed to protect public safety, while unrelated bears will be released; officials do not know how many bears were involved. It follows a 2025 grizzly attack in the same area that injured 11 schoolchildren and teachers. The public is urged to avoid the trail.
